RESEARCH MONITORING AND EVALUATION DIVISION

This is one of the divisions in the Curriculum and Research Services department. It is headed by a Deputy Director-Research Monitoring and Evaluation.
 
Vision of the division

Be a centre of excellence in conducting and disseminating educational research for quality education and training.

This is in line with the vision of the Kenya Institute of Education which is to be the centre of excellence in the provision of relevant curriculum for quality education and training. To develop quality curriculum that serves the needs of a dynamic society, there is need for quality and effective research to inform decisions made on the same, hence the pivotal role that this division plays.The division has 4 sections each headed by a Senior Assistant Director.

The sections are:-

i. Applied Research
This section monitors curriculum programmes developed by the institute. It also carries out formative and summative evaluation of these programmes.

ii. Basic Research
This section is charged with carrying out research that brings in new knowledge to enrich curriculum by addressing gaps related to curriculum development. The section carries out frontier research for the institute.

iii. External services
This section carries out the following functions:
a. Establishing linkages between KIE and other research and educational institutions. This involves initiating collaborations/ partnership in the conduct of research capacity building and consultancies.
b. Identifying areas that KIE can offer consultancies in and linking up with the relevant division to bid for consultancies.
c. Organizing annual educational symposium/ research conference to help in dissemination/sharing of research findings.

iv. Data Management-
The functions of this section are Management of data, coordination of research publications and Documentation and Dissemination of research findings.

 Dissemination of findings of the following studies
i. An assessment of the quality of implementation of Free Primary Education in Kenya
ii. An investigation on challenges in test development in relation to practice, validity, reliability and utility among primary school teachers in Kenya.
iii. Monitoring of Radio broadcasts for schools in Kenya
iv. Evaluation of Early Childhood Education Diploma teachers' course
v. Summative evaluation of the revised primary and secondary schools curricula
